November Door Decoration

06 November 2018
I cannot believe how quickly October flew by!  Here we are thinking about turkeys and cornucopias and things we are grateful for!  I absolutely love November and was so excited to create a fun door decoration for our classroom this month.

Each student was given a paper leaf on which they wrote something that they are grateful for.  This actually led to a really decent class discussion about gratitude and the importance of saying, "thank you".

I created a packet that includes everything you need (words, turkey, leaves, directions, etc.) to put together your own darling November door!

Hello Fall Centers!

05 October 2015
You probably noticed that things are a bit of a mess around here!  The blog is under construction for the next little while as it is receiving a bit of a facelift, but hopefully it won't take too long.

I wanted to share a few screenshots from a recent project that has my students and I all excited!  I wanted to create some engaging and productive centers that are simple and easy to prepare.  With a baby on the way and a plethora of changes on my horizon, simplicity is what I am aiming for in each little realm of my life!

Here are a few pages from my Hello, Fall Centers packet.  All of the activities are Common Core aligned and come with simple instructions and suggestions.  If you are interested in this packet it will be on sale throughout the rest of the week!

November Recap

29 November 2014
November was a busy month for our class! We had two pre-service student teachers helping out for most of the month.  My kids felt so special to have three teachers for a few weeks, and I was grateful for the extra hands and eyes!  It also marked the end of a trimester for my first graders so we did a lot of reviewing and assessing to see how much we have learned so far in first grade!  It is always rewarding for me to observe and take note of the tremendous progress these sweet kiddos are capable of!  Here are a few random pictures of things here-and-there throughout the month.

One of my student teachers introduced digraphs to my students with these cute foldables.  My students loved making these!

My other student teacher introduced my students to 3D shapes.  They began by using marshmallows and toothpicks to build 2D shapes and then we explored from there with attempts to make 3D shapes.  They really enjoyed this task and did very well!

As Thanksgiving drew nearer we started learning about turkeys.  I don't have a picture of my students' turkeys, but they turned out so cute!  After making the turkeys and glueing on the feathers my kids wrote turkey facts they had collected from a few non-fiction turkey texts.

And on the last day before Thanksgiving break I found these cute notes on my desk.  I am so thankful to be a teacher!  It is a tremendous blessing in my life and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity I have to teach and learn from these wonderful children!

Thanksgiving Week!

26 November 2013

Happy Thanksgiving!  I just finished up my last day before the break and I am overjoyed to have some time off to spend with my family.  I have been feeling so much gratitude today and I wanted to say thank you for all that you do as teachers! It is hard work and I sometimes have to remind myself that we have so much to be grateful for.  While pouring over some pictures of our Thanksgiving party this afternoon I could not help but smile at the sweet innocence and excitement in my students' faces.  They are truly precious. We have much to be grateful for!

I wanted to share a few pictures from our week!  And I'm pretty sure just about all of the pictures are crooked in some way...so I apologize...sign of a teacher ready for a break, I think!

We brainstormed things we felt thankful for and hung this chart up in the hall to share our gratitude!  We added to it throughout the week as we thought of more things.

We learned a whole bunch about turkeys through reading a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts.  We recorded some of our new-found knowledge here...

...and here...

By the way, did you know that Hobby Lobby has a wild variety of feathers?  I stood in the feather and pipe cleaner aisle for a good 15 minutes debating over colors while my husband waited very somewhat patiently for our date night to resume :).

Anywho, I wanted to let my students be creative and have some fun so I got a few wacky colors, but these turkeys turned out great and the kids really enjoyed making them!  We talked about how some of our turkeys would be appropriate in a non-fiction book while others would be more appropriate in a fiction book!

And I have to share this last picture because it is just so dang cute!  My room mom found this idea on Pinterest some place and my kids had such a great time making these little root beer turkeys at our Thanksgiving party.  So cute!

Happy Thanksgiving!
