Arctic Animals

20 January 2019
We are in the midst of January and in my class that means that it is time for Arctic Animals!  We've been working on reading non-fiction texts and improving our informational writing skills.  To complement these ideas (and to generate some cold weather excitement), I created this arctic animals packet!  It is packed full of so many fabulous activities that you and your students will love.  Take a look!

One of my favorite features of this packet is that it has cross-curricular connections that put on arctic spin on the other content you may be working on!

Happy New Year!

31 December 2018
Happy New Year!  I am so excited about having something of a fresh start, and about all that the new year of 2019 will bring.  I don't have to be back at school until Thursday (thank goodness for a few more days of yoga pants and messy buns!), but I have been prepping a few things to make my transition after winter break a little easier for myself and for my students (and maybe for you too!).  Here are a few of the resources I am going to be using:

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION CRAFT

I can hardly wait to do this low-prep craftivity with my students.  It is going to be the perfect thing for our first day back: easy for me, fun for my students!

Click HERE or below to grab it for yourself!

I am planning on drawing from a few of my older resources including this FREE winter break writing packet, and my January packet full of math and literacy activities.  Click on the pictures to get them too!

Hot Cocoa Classroom Incentive

11 January 2018

I'm so sorry for the crickets around here lately.  I recently started an Etsy shop and it has taken up any and all of my free time!  However, with the start of a brand new year I am hoping to dust off this little blog and start sharing more!

Today I have a super cute classroom incentive poster that you can make!  It is super easy to put together and so fun and engaging for your kiddos.  They will love watching the cocoa slide higher up with every good choice that they make.

Directions are included to put this slider poster together.  It is really easy, don't worry!

January can be a rough time for classroom management and I know that this will help with that.  You can choose any reward that you want your students to work towards, but I usually go with a hot cocoa party!

Grab this classroom incentive poster here!

Happy Teaching!
Love, Bethany

Snowball Sight Words {Freebie!}

11 January 2014

Guess what?  I found my camera!  Somehow during the move it was lost and forgotten about and I stumbled upon it this morning while shuffling through boxes.  Our entire house looks like this:

Lovely.  Unpacking is number one on my list today, but I wanted to stop in and post a quick freebie that I hope can be useful to you!

The entire Dolch first grade list is included as well as a few hand-picked sight words that constantly seem to need review!  There is also a page of blank snowballs so you can write in the words that your little darlings need help with. You can use these in so many different ways!  Tape them up around the room and have students go on a sight word snowball hunt or a fun write-the-room.  Use them as flashcards!  Or, you can do this fun sight word center idea that Cara Carroll just posted (she is my hero, just saying!).  Toss the sight words into a bucket of cotton balls and have your students dig through the snowballs, recording the sight words that they find.  I can't wait to introduce this center to my students next week!  They are going to LOVE it!
Visit The First Grade Parade for this recording sheet!

Alright, I guess it is time to face those cardboard boxes!  Have a great weekend everyone!

The January Packet

28 December 2013

Hello, dear friends! I hope you have had a wonderful Christmas and a lovely winter break! Due to some cruel unfortunate coincidences my husband and I have had to move over Christmas for the past 3 years and so I've been a bit busy doing that.  Luckily a Christmas miracle took place and our neighbors and friends came out of the woodwork to help us get everything done.  We had time to spare before Christmas Eve to finish up our shopping and spend time with those we love!

It has been great, and yet I confess I always feel just a little bit down after Christmas is over.  The 26th of December is always rough for me, but then I remember that New Year's is just around the corner and we have so many happy things to look forward to!  I love the turning of the old year into the new.  The thought of 2014 fills me with promise and hope!  Who knows what will happen this year?
I'm banking on something big... ;)

With the beginning of a new year comes the beginning of January of course and I am excited to announce my newest packet, The January Packet!

I've really enjoyed making and using these little packets (you can see October, November, and December in my TPT store). I think this one is the best (and definitely the biggest) yet!  There are over 70 pages of great math, literacy, and just-for-fun pages that are all neat and Common Core aligned! Here are some pictures below to give you a glimpse of the resources you can find in this packet!

There is even a bonus bunting banner that spells out, "January" for you to decorate your classroom!

The January Packet will be on sale throughout the first week of January!

Click right here or the picture below to purchase!

I'm going to put my January Currently here at the end of this post!
I wish you all a very happy new year!  Hurray for 2014!
